Forbes has released its 10 most influential celebrities of 2013 with familiar names like Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg topping the list.

The race for this year’s Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) began last night in Malawi ahead of the ceremony scheduled for April 25, 2013 in Bayelsa which promises to reward hard-working filmmakers who have excelled within the last year.

The AMAA screening committees and jury had worked assiduously behind the scenes to see movies that were submitted for consideration.

According to reports, movies submitted were of good quality and an improvement of the previous year.

“Various African filmmakers have refined their works and have tried to produce exceptional movies that could compete on the biggest movie platforms in the world,” an AMAA statement read.

Actor OC Ukeje is nominated in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category so as the late veteran, Justus Esiri for his movie, ‘Assasins Practice.’ Also Rita Dominic is in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category for her film, ‘The Meeting.’

The top prizes at this year’s Grammy Awards, went to Gotye, FUN. and Mumford & Sons.

British folk band, Mumford & Sons went home with two plaques, including the Album of the Year, for their song, Babel.

Best New Artist and Song of the Year, went to Indie-pop trio FUN, while Australian singer, Gotye won three Grammys, including Record of the Year for his hit song, Somebody That I used to Know, which featuredKimbra.
