(NEWS): FG Might Reconsider Scrapping NECO, UTME – Presidential Aide

                                     

It has been revealed that the Presidency may reconsider the scrapping of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) and others penciled in for scrapping by the Oronsaye Panel.
This revelation was made by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Youth and Student Matters, Mr Jude Imagwe, while speaking at the opening of an international workshop on Teaching, Learning and Methodology at the Afe Babalola University Ado Ekiti (ABUAD).


Imagwe said that the Federal Government was still studying the recommendation of the Oronsaye Panel and expressed the hope that the two bodies would remain after due consideration. He noted that the two bodies were enactments of the law and created for specific purposes towards the advancement of education in Nigeria.
His words: “at the end of the day, we will keep our own. NECO will be strengthened.” Pointing out that President Goodluck Jonathan was committed to the development of education in the country, Imagwe called for support for private universities, describing ABUAD as “the product of a man’s vision for quality education.”

Federal Government has concluded arrangements to scrap the National Examination Council.

Plans have also been concluded to cancel the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination being conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board for applicants into the nation’s tertiary institutions.

JAMB will however not be scrapped.

The government’s decisions, which would be made public soon via a White Paper, are based on the recommendations of the Stephen Oronsaye-led Presidential Committee on the Rationalisation and Restructuring of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies.

A government source told our  correspondent that the decisions were part of the recommendations made by a White Paper Committee set up by the government on the Oronsaye report.

Nigerian Highways To Get Surveillance Cameras

The Federal Government of Nigeria has concluded plans to collaborate with a safety organization to install surveillance cameras in all the major highways across the country. This is in a bid to curtail violation of road traffic laws and ensure there’s an eye out to see when criminal activities are being committed on our highways.
A Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, would therefore be signed this week between the government and Risk and Accident Prevention Society of Nigeria, RAPSON in a move that will bring about the installation of 10,000 units of smart cameras and 13,000 sets of memory censors on the nation’s highways.
Chairman of RAPSON, Mr Ben Koko Odohofre while speaking ton newsmen in Abuja said the organization was set to employ 300,000 personnel to work on the project.
RAPSON is an organization with the objective to save lives and reduce the toll of injuries and death resulting from accident and violence on roads.
Good step from them tho... Not sure if there wont be some sort of Money Misappropriation for this Project.
