Easter Monday in Onitsha was one to remember after twenty-five couples married at a special mass wedding at the 302 Artillery Regiment of the Nigerian Army.
Commander 302 Artillery Regiment, Col. T. A Gagariga, said it was the first time in history of the Nigerian Army, that soldiers had come together to legalise their marriages before God and prayed God to grant them their good heart desires.
“For us in the army, it has made our job easier because marriage helps us to know the next of kins of soldiers,” he said.
Taking place at St Peter’s Military Church (Anglican), officiating Minister, Capt. B.G Newton, told the newly wedded couples to always put God first in whatever they do in order to bless their marriage.
He spoke to the 25 couples about their responsibilities to the society, saying they owed it a duty to train their children in the fear of God and in accordance with societal norms.
According to reports, Sgt and Mrs. Chindo Larai praised God for the opportunity to exchange their vows to each other and promised as a couple they would work to make a better society.
“We are happy today to be joined together in marriage, most of us had no opportunity to do wedding because of the job. But today, we are happy to do wedding and we pray to God to bless our commander, Col. Gagariga who made it possible,” Larai said.
