An unidentified cult group in Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, attacked student hostels on Monday.
A source in the school said the incident occurred about 11pm, with the properties of the students stolen.
Our correspondent learnt that the cult group had been disturbing the peace of the students for about a week, and had continued to rob them of their belongings.
It was learnt that palpable fear had enveloped the students, who were said to be writing their first semester examination.
A student, who pleaded anonymity, for fear of being attacked, said, “The cult boys attacked at about 11pm.
“We were peeping from our rooms before the school’s Man-O-War members rushed into the hostels. They told us to turn off the lights both in the rooms and on the corridor. Those that we could not find their switches had to break the bulbs.”
The female student said the cultists stormed the hostels with guns and were shooting intermittently.
She added that cultists fled with the arrival of soldiers from a military formation in the area.
Our correspondent also learnt that nobody was killed during the attack, but phones, laptops and other gadgets were stolen.
Efforts to get the reaction of the school were unsuccessful.
