When the company analyzed its data for 2012, it discovered the site was seeing the fastest growth from women attending these two universities.
In 2012, 285 women from New York University enlisted to see if they could receive extracurricular perks from meeting men on the site. Columbia University, the only Ivy League school to make the site’s top 20 list, saw 100 new female “sugar babies.”
Company spokesperson Jennifer Gwynn points to the city’s skyrocketing cost of living combined with ever-rising tuition and housing rates.
“Most college women seek an allowance of around $3,000 a month,” said Gwynn. “In New York, ‘sugar babies’ ask for more, around $4,000.”
New York University and Columbia are noted for its exceptionally high costs.
Forbes.com recently ranked the Ivy the third most expensive school in America, costing an estimated $59,208 a year, including room, board, fees, tuition and books. New York University ranked fifth, barely a bargain at $58,858.
Not all “sugar babies” are obligated to have sex with their generous “sugar daddies,” Gwynn said. They have to agree on the terms of their relationship. Sometimes, it’s companionship and sometimes it gets more intimate.
“Just like any relationship,” she said.
While more Big Apple college females are offering up themselves in exchange for some financial aid, most of women who sign up for a “sugar daddy” from Seeking Arrangement are Southern belles.
Georgia State University saw the highest increase — 292 females — in sign ups. There was significant interest from Florida women as well.
“The South was hit especially hard by foreclosures other economic difficulties,” said Gwynn. “A lot of these girls thought there would be money for them to go to college from their parents. The economy changed that.”
While this data was derived its database of female college students and male “daddies,” the site also caters to young men and women seeking “sugar mommies” and “daddies.”
Gwynn said that the site isn’t just for women who want to flirt or sleep their way free of student loan debt. Many are just young women who seek mature men who are willing to show them the finer things in life, like fancy restaurants, the opera or offer business connections.
