The former governor of Oyo State (1999 – 2003), Alhaji Lamidi Adesina sadly passed on yesterday, Sunday 11th November 2012 at St Nicholas Hospital, Lagos after a prolonged illness. He was aged 73 years old.
According to media reports, he had
suffered diabetes for a long time and was said to have died as a result
of complications from the ailment.
He was initially admitted at the
University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan and later taken to the St.
Nicholas Hospital, Lagos where he passed on yesterday morning.
He was later buried in the evening at his Felele residence, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital according to Islamic rites.
He is survived by his wife and children.
Following his death, the Oyo state
government has declared a seven-day mourning for the departed elder
statesman during which all official state functions will be suspended
and the national flag flown at half-mast.
The current governor of the state, Abiola Ajimobi described the late Adesina as a “a
dedicated patriot, foremost defender of democracy and human rights, and
political war-horse who had always stood on the side of truth.”
